What role does the Mayor of Bloomfield play in the Police Department?
City Ordinance 110.040 (f) states:
The Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Board of Aldermen, shall have the power to appoint all appointive officers of the City. He shall have authority to give such orders to the Chief of Police and Policemen of the City as in his judgment the public good may require, and it shall be the duty of the Chief of Police and Police Officers to obey such orders.
How do I make a complaint against an officer?
The Bloomfield Police Department has a process for taking and investigating complaints. Contact Chief Curtman and he will advise you of the process and assist you in getting it started. All complaints are taken and investigated in accordance with the Bloomfield Police Department Policy / General Orders.
My dog was picked up by the Animal Control Officer. What do I do to get
The animal recovery fee is $10 for the first day and $5 for each additional day. You will also be required to purchace a city dog tag. After you pay the recovery fee, you will have 48 Hours to provide proof of shots and purchase the city tag. If you fail to comply a citation will be issued for allowing your dog to run at large and failure to purchase a city dog tag. A city dog tag is only $1.00
Why do we have so many officers?
We only have 3 full time officers. We have 7 part time officers, or "reserves." All of the reserve officers work full time jobs elsewhere and they take turns covering shifts not covered by the full time officers. Full time officers cover 120 Hours a week while the reserve officers cover 26. That's a total of 146 Hours covered out of a 168 hour week. reserve officers also help to cover special events, such as festivals, and programs in the park.
I received a citation? What are my options?
If the citation is for a traffic offense and you wish to plead guilty, pay the fine, and avoid going to court you can contact the Municipal Court Clerk on Thursdays between 4 PM and 6 PM at 573-568-3576. This is only if you received your citation from a Bloomfield City Officer. If you were issued a citation from a Sheriff's Deputy or the Highway Patrol You will need to contact the Stoddard County Justice Center. If you wish to appear in court and plead not guilty then your court date will be listed on the upper left portion of your ciation.
